3-26-10: After finding out that his brain tumor had returned with a vengeance, WNCWA Members join forces with several professional colleagues and friends of Randy Osborne to assist in completing renovations to Randy and Amy Osborne's home in Clyde, hereafter called Randy's Project.
4-24-10: WNCWA members and fellow woodworkers on the NCWoodworkers.net website raised $3,400 to help defray the costs of Randy's Project. Over the three week reconstruction, many WNCWA members spent several days each at the house laying ceramic tile, making and installing custom baseboard molding, painting interior walls, ceilings and trim, installing doors, installing kitchen cabinets and custom valences, fireplace surrounds and entry pavers -- work at the home was completed the day before Randy and Amy returned from a trip to visit relatives and a week-long cruise.
6-02-10: WNCWA co-founder Randy Osborne passed away at his home in Clyde after a 2-1/2 year bout with cancer. Randy was not only an accomplished woodworker and electrical engineer, he was devoted to his family and church. He loved his marvelous collection of hand tools and was a long-time member of the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. Randy is now making chips in a new shop in a better place and our hearts go out to his wife Amy and his children and grandchildren for their loss. He will be missed but not forgotten.
6-12-10: Mike Fiantaca to speak at June Meeting. A listing of mostly power tools from Randy Osborne's shop will be provided to members for sale at meeting. Pictures will also be shown, but they are also in an album in our Photo Gallery. All proceeds will go to Randy's widow, Amy.
6-14-10: This has not been a good month for WNCWA -- Nancy Payne, wife of WNCWA President Rob Payne, died suddenly from a cerebral hemmorhage following a fall at home on Friday, June 11th. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at Historic Johnson Farm in Hendersonville on Sunday, July 4th from 2-4 PM.
7-10-10: Wes Keull of Mountain Sawyers gave a detailed presentation on the new 6-head molder system that has recently been installed at their shop. The demonstration included grinding and setting knives in the machine as well as full speed runs of two types of molding.
7-24-10: WNCWA President Rob Payne went to the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association Meeting south of Raleigh to display Randy Osborne's Marsh Plane collection and beautiful Walnut Cabinet that he designed and nearly completed before his death in June. Rob had assembled the cabinet with the help of Tim Merrill who carved the sign boards, name tags and inlay strips on his Shop Bot. The collection was very well received.
